Bengtsfors
Bengtsfors is the regional centre in the council and has got 3,600 inhabitants.
Bengtsfors is an expanding industrial community and has a rich service to offer with
plenty of shops and restaurants.
Worth to know
The Dalsland Kanal is running through Bengtsfors. One way to enjoy the canal and the locks are by passing through them in a passenger boat.
There are also canoe and railway trolleys renting as well as a tourist harbour.
The Gammalgården is the western Sweden's biggest outdoor life museum with a fantastic view over the land. Here you can find about 20 cottages, youth hostels and café. Guided tours are held daily during June, July and August.
The Halmens Hus is the centre for the famous straw-works of Dalsland and is located at the Gammalgården. There are not only the wide ranges of straw-goods for sale here, but also tree, textile, ceramic, forging and birch-bark goods.
At the Dal Västra Värmland Järnväg (railway), you can rent a railway-trolley between Bentsfors and Årjäng. The whole length of this journey is 52 km and it is possible to travel a part of this distance with canoe if you like.
There are also a rail bus between Mellerud and Bengtsfors. This rail bus is connected with the passenger boats at the canal so that you can continue your journey in an exciting way.
